Commission Information

1. Initial Consultation

All commissioned artwork begins with a consultation. During this conversation, we will discuss:

  • Desired size
  • Subject matter
  • Color palette
  • Inspiration and references
  • Placement/location of artwork
  • Timeline expectations
  • Overall vision for the piece
  • There is no obligation to move forward after the consultation.

2. Commission Proposal

Following the consultation, the artist will return with a commission proposal within two weeks unless another timeline is communicated.

The proposal may include:

  • Written creative direction
  • Inspiration images
  • Reference materials
  • Preliminary sketches
  • Estimated pricing
  • Estimated completion timeline

Please note: proposal materials are conceptual and intended to communicate direction, mood, and composition. The final artwork will be created in the artist’s style and will not be an exact replica of sketches, mockups, or references provided during the proposal stage.

3. Revision Process

After receiving the proposal, the client is entitled to:

  • Two rounds of revisions included in the commission fee

Additional revision rounds beyond the included two will increase the total commission cost by 5% per round based on the original base painting price.

Example:

  • Medium Painting Base Price: $175
  • Standard Commission Fee: +30%
  • Third Revision Round: +5%
  • Total Commission Increase: +35% = $236.25

4. Cancellation Policy

The client may cancel the commission at any point before painting begins at no cost, even if:

  • A consultation has occurred
  • Proposal materials have been delivered
  • Revisions to the proposal have been made

Once painting has begun, the commission is considered active and materials/labor have been invested into the piece.

5. Painting Timeline

Once the proposal is approved, the artist will begin work on the commissioned piece and provide an estimated completion date.

Please note:

  • Completion timelines may vary depending on size, complexity, and current workload
  • Rush timelines may be discussed, but expedited completion is not guaranteed
  • The artwork will be completed by the agreed-upon date unless otherwise communicated

“Completed” refers to the artwork itself and does not necessarily include delivery, framing, installation, or shipping time.

6. Communication During the Process

During the painting process, the artist may reach out for:

  • Clarifications
  • Preference checks
  • Minor feedback
  • Additional reference requests

Any artist-initiated check-ins or update opportunities are complimentary and do not count as formal revision rounds.

7. Final Approval & Client Satisfaction

If, upon completion, the client decides the artwork is not acceptable, the client is not obligated to purchase the final piece.

In this circumstance:

  • The client is responsible only for material costs (canvas, paint, specialty materials, etc.)
  • The artwork remains the property of the artist
  • The artwork may later be altered, exhibited, or sold to another collector

The client does not retain ownership of unfinished or declined artwork unless separately agreed upon in writing.
